Frequently asked questions
Therapy with me doesn’t always look like sitting across from each other talking about your week (though that is something that is often needed!). While traditional therapy has its place, I’ve found that real growth often happens out in the world, in the spaces where life actually unfolds.
I’ve gone on hikes with clients to help ease anxiety with nature therapy and get endorphins flowing. I’ve supported people in preparing for job interviews, building resumes, and practicing real-world communication skills. I’ve gone with clients as part of a social group to work on confidence and connection in a fun, low-pressure environment. These kinds of experiences aren’t just unique, they’re intentional. They’re about creating opportunities to learn and grow in the ways that matter most to you.
One of the core values of my practice is staying connected outside of scheduled sessions. Life doesn’t pause between appointments, and I encourage my clients to reach out when they need support. That might mean checking in about goals, talking through something tough that just happened, or celebrating a win as it’s happening. I want you to know you’re not doing this alone.
Above all, the relationship we build together is at the heart of everything. I care deeply about creating a space where you feel safe, seen, and genuinely understood. I’m open to whatever kind of support you need, whether that’s working on life skills, navigating friendships or family dynamics, managing stress, or building confidence in social situations.
My goal is never to keep you in therapy forever. I want to help you build the tools, confidence, and self-trust to navigate life on your own, in a way that feels right for you. I’ll be here as long as you need me, but the hope is that one day, you won’t!
**Please note, non-traditional therapy sessions are solely for private pay clients as insurance does not cover non-traditional sessions!
I totally understand that cost can be a barrier, and I deeply believe that specialized mental health care should be accessible. That’s why I reserve 25% of my caseload for sliding scale spots, which are offered at a reduced fee based on financial need.
The best way to find out if I currently have any sliding scale openings is to reach out directly. I’m always happy to have a conversation to see what’s possible. Even if I don’t have availability at the moment, I can offer referrals or help you explore other options that feel supportive and manageable.
Your mental health matters, and I’ll do what I can to help you get the care you need!
The first therapy session is an important starting point, but it’s common for it not to feel immediately "helpful" in the way many people might expect. That’s completely normal. The main focus of our initial appointment is for me to begin getting to know you, your background, what’s been going on in your life, and what brings you to therapy.
This means I’ll likely be asking a lot of questions to help me understand your experiences, challenges, and goals. While it might feel like there’s more talking about things than working through them, this process helps me figure out how I can best support you moving forward.
That said, therapy is a relationship, and it’s just as important that you get a sense of who I am, too. I want you to feel comfortable, safe, and supported here. So the first session also gives you space to ask me questions, share what you're looking for in a therapist, and begin to get a feel for how we might work together.
It’s completely ok if you leave the first session with more questions than answers, that’s part of the process. Over time, as we build trust and clarity, therapy can become a space of insight, relief, and meaningful change!
I offer in-person and community based sessions, designed to help clients build confidence, learn real world skills, and feel supported in environments that matter most to them. Instead of staying inside an office, we take therapy into the community where everyday life actually happens.
Sessions may include practicing social skills in real settings, such as ordering at a cafe, navigating a store, or engaging in casual conversations in public spaces. For clients who benefit from experiential learning, we can work through daily tasks together to help increase comfort, independence, and self trust.
I also integrate nature based experiences when helpful, including hiking, walking on local trails, or engaging in simple outdoor activities. These moments outside can support emotional regulation, reduce stress, and strengthen overall mental health.
Community sessions are always collaborative, supportive, and tailored to each individual’s goals, offering a safe space to learn, practice, and grow with guidance every step of the way!
